Is my business required to carry Kentucky workers compensation insurance?

Yes, even if you have only one part-time employee, you are required to carry Kentucky workers compensation coverage. The state also requires employers to post a Workers Compensation Notice in clear view their workplace which provides the name of the insurance carrier, policy number, and instructions on what to do if an employee becomes injured.

Who is exempt from Kentucky workers compensation insurance?

Employees who are except from Kentucky workers compensation coverage consist of farm workers or workers considered domestic servants in a residence with no more than two full-time employees. Also exempt are residential maintenance/repair workers on a job for less than twenty consecutive days.

Federal law covered employees including railroad, maritime, or members of religious sects are considered exempt. Business owners also do not require insurance, but may still elect to purchase their own coverage. Corporate officers of a business are considered employees and therefore covered.
